There were always rumours doing the rounds that Apple used to intentionally slow down its older mobile devices. It used to be restricted to the Internet communities and social media. However, a few months back in 2017, Apple disclosed the fact about slowing down the battery performance of its iPhones. As expected there was a big hue and cry and Apple had to apologise.

More than lip service were needed and the Cupertino-based tech giant swung into damage control mode. Apple firstly reduced the price of an out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement by ₹3,900 — from ₹5,900 to ₹2,000 — for anyone with an iPhone 6 or later whose battery needs to be replaced, available worldwide through December 2018.

It further stated that, “Early in 2018, Apple will issue an iOS software update with new features that give users more visibility into the health-status of their iPhone’s battery, so they can see for themselves if its condition is affecting performance.” We are in ‘early 2018’ now and true to its word, Apple has released the new update for iOS (11.3) which suggest you how to check an iPhone’s battery performance. Here’s how you can check out:

Step 1:

Download and install iOS 11.3 if you haven’t done so.

Step 2:

Go to Settings > Battery. Here you will notice a new option Battery Health (beta)

Step 3: 

Click on it to find out more about your iPhone’s battery performance.

In case you see the following message on your iPhone, then this means that your battery is absolutely fine.

However, if your battery requires replacement and has completed its time, then you’ll see the following message on your iPhone:

By following these steps and you’ll get to know if your iPhone needs a new battery or not.

Note: This feature works with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
